How to prevent liquid pump failure

To maintain good pump performance, the system must be kept clean, the quality of the solvents and reagents used must be maintained and the mobile phase must be filtered and degassed before entering the flow path.

Preventing pump failure requires a sustained, uninterrupted effort:

1) The use of high-quality reagents and HPLC-grade solvents, both for the pump and the column;

2) The mobile phase and solvent should be filtered with high quality material before use;

3) degassing the mobile phase and solvent into the process;

4) Every time you start to use the exhaust vent, after the work from the pump and the column to wash away the buffer or harmful substances; Do not allow water and corrosive solvents and other harmful substances in the pump and column retention;

5) regular replacement of online filter ring and other gaskets;

6) Strictly follow the recommendations in the pump operating manual.

Pumps in good working order should be able to stabilize the baseline on the chromatogram; reproducibility of retention time is good. Fluctuations in isocratic elution are less than 2%. Gradient elution pressure changes should be slow and steady.

In order to rule out the failure as soon as possible after the failure, usually should be standing seal, check valve (inlet and outlet), pump head device, all kinds of fittings, fuses and other components, and replacement tools.
